Claudia Storto is counsel in our Municipal, Planning & Environmental Group. She specializes in municipal and land use planning law and offers extensive experience appearing before the Local Planning Appeal Tribunal (formerly the Ontario Municipal Board). She advises on planning matters ranging from minor variances to municipal comprehensive reviews and official plans, official plan amendments, draft plans of subdivision, zoning by-laws and site plans.
In addition, Claudia has significant experience advising on municipal issues, such as building code inquiries, by-law compliance, development charges, elections, Municipal Act accountability and transparency measures (such as Integrity Commissioner investigations, closed meeting investigations, and lobbyist registries) as well as risk management and municipal liability. Claudia also has experience appearing before the Superior Court of Justice and Divisional Court.
Prior to joining Cassels Brock, Claudia served in the public sector as City Solicitor with the City of Vaughan. In 2016, she received the Canadian Lawyer InHouse Innovatio Award in Litigation Management for her handling of the OMB appeals of the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre Secondary Plan. Claudia is a frequent speaker and contributor at various industry association conferences.
