Legal Assistant - Securities
Cassels Brock & Blackwell LLP is presently recruiting for a Legal Assistant in our Securities Department providing a variety of routine legal and administrative duties to one (1) Partner and one (1) Associate including preparation of legal documents and correspondence.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Preparing legal documents in a securities practice from written, oral and taped instructions and precedents.
- Drafting routine correspondence on behalf of lawyer.
- Entering dockets and preparing accounts.
- Applying proofreading and editing skills to documents and correspondence.
- Obtaining information and instructions from clients and forwarding to lawyer.
- Assisting in management of lawyer’s practice, i.e., opening files, arranging meetings, scheduling hearing dates with government bodies and/or representatives, arranging travel and/or accommodations.
- Managing bring forward system and keeping lawyer apprised of matters in office.
- Provide support to other lawyers and staff as required and requested.
Work Experience Requirements:
- Proficient computer skills in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- A minimum of 2 to 3 years previous legal experience with an emphasis on securities would be beneficial.
- Familiarity with TSX resources, SEDAR and SEDI would be an asset
- Highly organized and have great pride in the final work product.
- The candidate must have initiative and able to work with minimal supervision as well as work as part of a team.
- Strong administrative and organizational skills are essential.
- Attention to detail and above average technical skills are prerequisites of this position.
Educational Requirements:
College Diploma or related work experience.

Evening Co-ordinator, Document Production Centre
Cassels Brock & Blackwell LLP is presently recruiting for an Evening Co-ordinator in our Document Production Centre for an afternoon/evening shift – 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., Monday to Friday.
Specific Responsibilities:
- General day to day duties with respect to the coordination of the department including prioritizing and distributing assignments, as well as the coordination of staff members with respect to external assignments.
- Coordination of job sheets and recording in database.
- Preparing legal documents from written, oral and taped instructions and precedents.
- Applying proofreading and editing skills to documents and correspondence.
- Provide support to lawyers, articling students, clerks and staff as required and requested.
Work Experience Requirements:
- Advanced computer skills in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint, Summation and FileMaker.
- A minimum of 4 to 5 years previous legal assistant experience along with the ability to co-ordinate and prioritize work assignments.
- Highly organized and have great pride in the final work product.
- The candidate must have initiative and able to work with minimal supervision as well as work as part of a team.
- Strong administrative and organizational skills are essential.
- Attention to detail and above average technical skills are prerequisites of this position.
