Stuart F. Blyth

Stuart F. Blyth is a partner in our Real Estate & Development Group. He acts for major developers in Alberta as well as other large clients – both domestic and international –who execute significant numbers of real estate matters.

Stuart has particular experience and knowledge in relation to pipeline real estate matters, telecommunications real estate matters, compliance with the Foreign Ownership of Land Regulations of Alberta respecting acquisition of lands by foreign corporations, commercial and residential subdivisions, development matters and land use matters, the assembly of lands for development purposes and the acquisition and disposition of lands.

His practice also includes acting on real estate transactions involving commercial developments including office buildings, shopping centres and industrial properties, leasing for retail, industrial and office developments including land leases and the financing of leasehold estates, project financing, condominium developments, title insurance matters, joint ventures and co-ownership agreements. Stuart also has experience involving GST matters relating to real estate, due diligence and title reviews. Stuart’s practice also involves advising on First Nations land matters.

Prior to joining Cassels Brock, Stuart was a partner at another major national firm. He is fluent in English and Spanish.

Representative Work

  • Managing the preparation of all land acquisition documents and ancillary documents for a new proposed pipeline to be constructed across Canada, including right-of-way documentation, leasing documentation and option to purchase documentation
  • Negotiating ground leases for new large petroleum tank storage facilities
  • Negotiating a lease for a new marine oil terminal
  • Negotiating an office premises lease for a significant portion of an office building
  • Preparing of partnership documentation respecting the development, construction, leasing and management of a major new medical centre
  • Preparing of limited partnership documentation for a new apartment complex development
  • Assisting a client with land assembly for the development of a new intermodial hub for the transportation of petroleum products including new rail facilities
