Jim Janetos
Jim is a partner in the Business Law Group and practises in the areas of corporate/commercial law, mergers and acquisitions, banking and corporate finance. Jim has acted as counsel in major corporate reorganizations, reorganizations of companies in connection with proceedings under the Companies’ Creditors Arrangement Act (Canada), transactions involving the acquisition of both private and public companies, venture capital financings, secured and unsecured debt financings, and public-private partnership transactions. Prior to joining Cassels Brock, Jim worked at another major national law firm.
A few examples of Jim’s work in these areas include representing:
- Infrastructure Ontario and Markham Stouffville Hospital regarding the Markham Stouffville Hospital redevelopment project
- Infrastructure Ontario and the Ministry of Transportation regarding the Highway 407 East Extension project
- Worldlynx Wireless LP in its acquisition of ten Bell Mobility independent wireless dealers across Canada, giving Worldlynx Wireless a platform of more than 60 retail and sales locations across the country
- Bear, Stearns & Co. Inc. and RBC Capital Markets, in their capacities as co-lead arrangers and joint bookrunners, in respect of their financing of the $1.37 billion acquisition of Gateway Casinos Income Fund and Gateway Casinos Inc. by New World Gaming Partners Ltd., a joint venture owned by Macquarie Group Limited and Crown Limited (formerly Publishing and Broadcasting Limited)
- Ojon Corporation in respect of its acquisition by The Estée Lauder Companies Inc.
- Various stakeholders regarding their equity investment in a polymer-based home building and construction products company listed on the TSX and NYSE
- 407 International Inc. in connection with the acquisition by Macquarie Infrastructure Group from Cintra Concesiones de Infraestructuras de Transporte, S.A. of a 13.87% equity interest in 407 International Inc.
- Amex Bank of Canada regarding its co-branded card products partnership with Air Canada and Aeroplan Limited Partnership and the term credit facility made available by Amex Bank of Canada to Air Canada and Aeroplan Limited Partnership in the context of the Air Canada restructuring
Jim is also a member of the board of directors of Mary Centre, a charity that delivers integrated support services and creates new opportunities for the benefit of the developmentally challenged, their families and the community in which we live.
