Jessica Fingerhut
Jessica is an associate in the Entertainment Law, Intellectual Property Law and Business Law Groups. In addition to working as a summer student at a large New York law firm, Jessica worked as both a summer and articling student at Cassels Brock prior to joining the firm as an associate.
Jessica’s experience includes:
- Drafting agreements and other materials related to the entertainment industry and intellectual property issues, including content licence agreements, intellectual property licence agreements, music producer and mixer agreements, music recording agreements, film distribution agreements, television option agreements, talent agreements, representation and agency agreements, cease and desist letters and copyright, trade-mark and domain name assignments
- Drafting corporate and commercial documents, including non-disclosure agreements, shareholder agreements, employment agreements, independent contractor agreements, escrow agreements, guarantees, security agreements and website privacy policies and terms of use
- Assisting with asset and share purchase transactions, including preparing the operative and closing documents for the sale of a marketing and promotion business and the dissolution of a related partnership
- Advising on a variety of copyright, trade-mark and other intellectual property issues, on advertising and marketing law issues and on issues relating to foreign ownership in the film distribution, broadcasting and telecommunications sectors
- Assisting with a proceeding in Ottawa before the Copyright Board of Canada
- Co-authoring a paper on User-Generated Content, which was published in the Internet and E-Commerce Law in Canada journal
While in law school, Jessica was actively involved with the J.D./M.B.A. Students’ Association, was Co-President of the Osgoode Hall Business Law Society and President of the Osgoode Hall Intellectual Property and Technology Law Society, and volunteered with the Community Legal Aid Services Program and Pro Bono Students Canada. She also worked as a summer law student at CanWest Global Communications Corp. where she drafted and revised licence agreements and other contracts, and at Cineplex Entertainment LP where she conducted legal research and wrote legal memoranda for the General Counsel.
