Jason Arbuck

Jason is a partner in the Financial Services Group, the Private Equity Group and the Hospitality and Tourism Group. His practice is devoted to general business law, with an emphasis on banking, commercial and asset based lending, insolvency, private equity, and mergers and acquisitions.  Jason is an active member of the American Bar Association and the Association for Commercial Finance Attorneys in the United States.  A significant portion of his practice is devoted to cross-border transactions.  He is also an expert in cash management and related banking services and regularly provides advice in this area to major Canadian banks. Jason also drafted and updated a new standard form loan document currently used by a major Canadian bank.

Jason has deep industry expertise in the lending industry, hospitality and tourism industry, the fashion industry, and the renewable energy industry.

Jason began his legal career at Cassels Brock in 1997. He left Cassels Brock for a short period to gain in-house experience which included employment at the head office of a major Canadian financial institution and a TSX listed high-tech firm.

Jason is a graduate of the LL.B/MBA Joint Degree Program offered at the Schulich School of Business and York's Osgoode Hall Law School. He received both degrees in 1997. Jason also has a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) from the University of Western Ontario. During his undergrad years, he completed the first two Society of Actuaries professional examinations.

In addition to practising law, Jason has an interest in speaking and education. He has appeared on BNN's SqueezePlay, speaks regularly at industry events, and has guest lectured at the Schulich School of Business. He has also lectured at many continuing education seminars, including Ontario Bar Association seminars and US based continuing legal education seminars.  He is an avid sailor and devoted father to two young girls.

Jason is the current Chair of the Canada/US Business Finance Sub-committee of the American Bar Association.

Jason's representative work includes:

  • Acting in respect of a significant investment in Brotech Precision CNC Inc., an Ontario leader in CNC machining
  • Acting in respect of a significant investment from a US based private equity fund in Guats Lifestyle Inc., a Canadian based clothing company producing leading styles from sustainable sources
  • Acting for Eclipsall Funding Ltd.’s debt financing in favour of Eclipsall Energy Corp., a Canadian manufacturer and distributor of high-performance PV modules for the solar energy market
  • Acting in respect of a significant investment from a US based private equity fund in Guats Lifestyle Inc., a Canadian based clothing company producing leading styles from sustainable sources
  • Acting in respect of Gibralt Capital’s acquisition of Skyservice Airlines
  • Acting in respect of Reinvest invest in Tamerlane Ventures Inc.
  • Acting for Rockwood Holdings Inc. in its sale of the AlphaGary plastic compounding business to Mexichem S.A.B.de C.V.
  • Acting for Goldcorp Inc. in its sale of the San Dimas gold-silver mine in Mexico to Primero Mining Corp.
  • Acting for Hotel 550 Wellington LP in its acquisition of the recently opened Thompson Toronto Hotel
  • Acting for both Momentum Advanced Solutions Inc. and Onx Enterprise Solutions in Momentum’s privatization
