Jason Arbuck* is a partner in the Financial Services Group, the Private Equity Group and the Hospitality and Tourism Group. His practice is devoted to commercial and asset-based lending transactions, banking, and structured finance transactions.
Jason has worked extensively in both the mining and hospitality industries on a variety of unsecured and senior secured debt facilities (including acquisition and project finance). Jason acts regularly for lenders and borrowers on both domestic and multi-jurisdictional transactions.
Jason is a director and Vice President of the Canadian Chapter of the Commercial Finance Association (CFA), a member of the American Bar Association and a director of the Association for Commercial Finance Attorneys in the United States, and he speaks regularly within these associations. A significant portion of his practice is devoted to cross-border transactions. He also has expertise in cash management and related banking services and regularly provides advice in this area to major Canadian banks.
Jason began his legal career at Cassels Brock in 1997. He left Cassels Brock for a short period to gain in-house experience which included employment at the head office of a major Canadian financial institution and a TSX listed high-tech firm.
Jason is a graduate of the LL.B/MBA Joint Degree Program offered at the Schulich School of Business and York's Osgoode Hall Law School. He received both degrees in 1997. Jason also has a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) from the University of Western Ontario. During his undergrad years, he completed the first two Society of Actuaries professional examinations.
In addition to practising law, Jason has an interest in speaking and education. He has appeared on BNN's SqueezePlay, speaks regularly at industry events, and has guest lectured at the Schulich School of Business. He has also lectured at many continuing education seminars, including Ontario Bar Association seminars and US based continuing legal education seminars. He is an avid sailor and devoted father to two young girls.
Jason sits on the board of directors of the Association of Commercial Finance Attorneys, the JD/MBA Alumni Association for Osgoode Hall Law School and the Schulich School of Business, Integrated Services for Autism and Neurodevelopmental Disorders (ISAND) and the Osgoode Hall Alumni Association. He is also an active member of the Toronto Opinions Group (TOROG) and the Personal Property Security Legislation subcommittee of the Ontario Bar Association (PPSL).
