Andrew Salem

Andrew Salem is a partner in the Real Estate & Development Group at Cassels Brock, practising in the area of commercial real estate and property development law. He represents clients on acquisitions, sales, co-ownerships, commercial leasing and financing transactions and all aspects of real estate and development projects. Andrew regularly acts as real estate/development counsel in connection with energy and infrastructure projects and transactions and he represents clients throughout Ontario on municipal land use planning and development approvals, where he appears before municipal councils and committees and the Ontario Municipal Board.

Andrew has acted for a wide range of clients, including property developers, federal and provincial government agencies, municipalities, major Canadian universities, financial institutions, energy companies, hospitals, media/communications companies, railways and large manufacturers.

Andrew’s experience includes:

  • Acting regularly for over 15 years for a provincial government agency in connection with property acquisitions, dispositions, leasing and planning/development matters
  • Acting for a large university on major property acquisitions and other real estate matters
  • Acting in connection with Ontario leasing matters for a major restaurant company
  • Acting for a residential developer in connection with a proposed multi-stage 1,500+ unit development project in Toronto
  • Acting for the purchaser in respect of the $78 million acquisition and financing of an office building in Toronto
  • Acting for the purchaser in connection with the acquisition of a portfolio of Ontario wind farm projects
  • Acting for the purchaser in connection with the $126 million acquisition of an industrial complex
  • Acting on the $31 million financing for the development of a 127 unit retirement home and assisted living facility
  • Acting for the purchaser in connection with the $58 million acquisition and financing of an office property portfolio

  • Acting for the vendor on the disposition of over 60,000 acres of forest properties in eastern Ontario
  • Acting for the purchaser in connection with the $147 million acquisition of an industrial property portfolio
  • Acting as counsel for a national land conservation organization in connection with its acquisitions and other real estate matters in Ontario
  • Acting for a landowner with respect to project agreements for a proposed retail/entertainment/hotel project in Toronto
  • Acting for a government agency in relation to ground leases and related agreements for a major renewable energy project
  • Acting for the vendor in connection with Planning Act approvals and the $45 million sale of hydro-generating assets and related real property interests
