Western Law Alumni Magazine Features Cassels Brock Mining Lawyers John Craig and Paul Stein

Despite its importance, mining law isn't always a field that attracts the attention of aspiring lawyers. With Canada's emerging position as a natural resources superpower, they eventually realize that odds are good they'll soon be drafting documents for mining or oil and gas deals. The Toronto Stock Exchange and the TSX Venture Exchange are the world leaders in mining listings and Canada's mining law expertise is a natural extension of the resource and mining industry. Western Law has taken notice and has a number of initiatives underway designed to prepare students for the mining law world while celebrating the success of graduates currently working in the field.

Cassels Brock partners John Craig, class of '71, and Paul Stein, class of '81, are featured in the 2011 Western Law Alumni Magazine for their top-tier ranking for mining in Chambers Global and decades of experience in the field. Although both men, like a lot of law grads, fell into mining through circumstance and chance, "I can't think of a better area for students to go into," says Craig. "It's never a dull moment. You couldn't as for anything more in a practice."
