Mixing It Up: Noble Chummar Instrumental in Bringing Mixed Martial Arts to Ontario

Published: 06/28/2011

Toronto’s appetite for mixed martial arts has proved insatiable, but, despite the obvious public appeal, the Ontario government harboured reservations about sanctioning the no-holds-barred sport.

Noble Chummar, partner in the Business Law and Government Relations groups, employed a methodical approach to breaking down these barriers by emphasizing the economic impact of the sport. The February 2011 sanctioning allows Ontarians, who make up roughly 17% of the sport’s overall business, to spend their money locally, resulting in revenues for both businesses and the provincial government. Each event can bring approximately 30,000 people to town and have an estimated $4-6 million impact on the city when hotels, restaurants, bars and taxis are taken into consideration.

Noble’s efforts to regulate mixed martial arts in Ontario are featured in the June 2011 issue of Canadian Lawyer Magazine. To read the full article, please click here.
