Lorne Saltman Featured in Financier Worldwide's Transfer Pricing Roundtable

Published: 06/11/2010

Lorne Saltman was part of an international Roundtable discussion on Transfer Pricing which appeared in Financier Worldwide in June 2010.

The global downturn has sharpened the focus on compliance and enforcement of transfer pricing rules. Tax authorities have widened the scope of their monitoring activities and are intent on imposing harsher penalties more often. Moreover, transfer pricing is no longer confined to just a handful of developed countries. Businesses should be prepared for investigations and adopt a hands-on approach to avoid being targeted.

The wide-ranging discussion covered topics such as:

  • Planning transfer pricing strategy to maximise tax efficiencies while limiting risks
  • Transfer pricing as a tool to move cash where needed
  • Valuing intangible assets for transfer pricing purposes
  • Whether tax authorities working together would result in better documentation and judgement on transfer pricing valuations
  • Whether reorganization and restructuring is a good time to re-evaluate and overhaul transfer pricing policy
  • Recent legal or regulatory changes or court decisions that affect how companies approach transfer pricing
  • Drafting inter-company agreements with transfer pricing in mind
  • Impact of increased monitoring & enforcement by tax authorities on transfer pricing risks
  • Advice to co's trying to resolve disputes with regulatory authorities
