Brian expects to see a Canadian corporation issue sukuk bonds in the next year or two. He observed that Canada is at a crossroads with respect to sukuk financing and that sukuk is now beyond being an idle curiosity. Brian said that sukuk bonds have the potential to be a new asset class in Canada and that such bonds are not as mysterious as they may appear. An income-trust structure is more complicated than an Islamic-bond structure, he noted. Brian practises in the areas of corporate and securities law with an emphasis on structured products, securities registration matters for dealers and advisors, finance transactions and mergers and acquisitions for both private and public companies. |
