Applications to Register Sound Marks Now Accepted in Canada

Breaking Trade-mark News: Effective immediately, the Canadian Trade-marks Office has accepted applications to register sound marks.  In a Practice Notice dated March 28, 2012, The Trade-marks Office has noted requirements for sound applications and has established protocols for how to submit applications.  According to Shane Hardy, a partner in the firm’s Brand Management Group, this new development will fundamentally change the way brand holders protect their sound marks in Canada.
