PresentationsISP Liability on Trial
On March 12, 2010, Casey Chisick will be moderating a panel discussion entitled, "ISP Liability on Trial" during Canadian Music Week (CMW). Music creators and rights holders have waited for over 10 years for a solution to the quandary of how to address unauthorized music file sharing on peer-to-peer, wired and wireless networks. The issue of "Internet Governance" has become a hot topic around the world that generates a wide array of views and myriad proposals for business and legislative solutions. Each year the IAEL publishes a book on a topic of international concern in the entertainment business. The 2010 book is about collective licensing at the ISP level. This idea continues to gain momentum each year as revenues continue to decline in the media distribution businesses as a result of the transition from physical to digital distribution. At CMW we believe the industry needs a legislative framework that gives the consumer safe, easy access to music in the formats and delivery systems they prefer, while ensuring that music creators and rights holders are fairly compensated. This session is sure to be a lively debate! CMW is the single longest running and premiere conference focusing on the business of Music and New Media, bringing together Sound Recording, New Technology and Broadcast for one spectacular week of events. Known for its world class and expert keynote speakers, the Conference attracts professional delegates from around the world. The theme for 2010 is "Music Business 3.0.” Lawyer, professor, jazz promoter and musician, Casey Chisick’s diverse background shapes his practice in important ways.
