Franchise Law and Class Actions

On April 29, 2011, Geoff Shaw will be speaking on a panel entitled, "Franchise Law and Class Actions" at Osgoode Hall's 8th National Symposium on Class Actions.

Topics to be covered during the session will be:

• Unique challenges in franchise class actions: the ongoing relationship
• Limits on settlement discussions with franchisees
• New causes of action in franchise disputes
• Plaintiff and Defence strategies for certifi cation and beyond
• Interplay between class actions and the right of association and duties of fair dealing under franchise legislation
• Resolving system-wide franchise disputes

Geoff is a partner in the commercial litigation department where the main focus of his practice is the resolution of business disputes through trial, appeal, mediation or arbitration. Franchise litigation is one of Mr. Shaw's specialties.
