Join the Employment & Labour Group at the Cassels Brock offices in Toronto for breakfast and a candid, practical discussion on ending employment relationships.

About This Seminar

Managing the termination of an employment relationship comes with many important considerations. Mistakes or oversights during this process can expose employers to a number of legal landmines including wrongful dismissal actions, tort claims, human rights applications and unintended contraventions of employment standards legislation. In this seminar, we will provide practical tips and strategies for ending the employment relationship in a manner that minimizes the potential liability to employers. The topics covered in this seminar will include:

1. Without Cause Terminations - A refresher on key considerations when terminating the employment relationship without cause, including contractual termination provisions, the common law, and statutory requirements.

2. Terminations for Cause - An overview of recent case law considering “just cause” terminations for serious employee misconduct.

3. Post-Employment Obligations of Employees - Strategies for addressing challenging post-employment obligations, including the protection of confidential information and the enforcement of restrictive covenants against former employees.
