$9 Billion Combination of Lundin, Inmet Creates New Behemoth International Copper Producer Symterra

Published: 01/13/2011

On January 12, 2011, Lundin Mining Corporation and Inmet Mining Corporation announced that they have entered into an arrangement agreement to merge, as equals, to create Symterra Corporation, one of the world’s leading international copper producers, in a transaction valued at approximately $9 billion. The combination diversifies the production base of both companies, significantly strengthens the new company’s earnings and capital base and provides an excellent platform for future world-class growth projects in copper, zinc and other base metals. Lundin and Inmet are widely viewed as an ideal pairing given their healthy financial positions, complementary management teams, shared commitment to corporate responsibility and common long-term outlook.
